Groveland Cemetery
Kolb Steel Works has proudly supported Dundas’ Groveland Cemetery for many years. We volunteered our services not only for the cemetery’s recent restoration, but also created its iron railings and helped to repair damage from the 2018 tornado.

We were honored to be selected by the City of Northfield to create a series of arched ornamental iron railings. Located in various spots throughout Northfield, they add a touch of charm while complementing the vintage character of the city.

A family-run business
In 1991, Wade Kolb bought 24 acres of undeveloped land in Dundas, Minnesota, where he constructed a building and started his welding business. Over the years Wade, his father Jerry and sons, Delton and Grant would transform the property from prairie and bogs into a tranquil, parklike setting tucked up against beautiful Wolf Creek.
The business, too, underwent a transformation.
For many years, Kolb Steel Works was known mostly for its metal fabrication services, including several high visibility projects. For example, after Northfield’s outdated 12th Street Bridge was replaced, the city contracted Kolb to fabricate the Riverwalk Gateways, two iron arches on the west side of Division Street that commemorate the 1886 bridge across the Cannon River. Kolb fabricated the two gateways, recreating a miniature bridge on the overhead arch and using the bollards from the original bridge as the base.
In recent years, the company expanded its services and now offers not only metal fabrication, but also outdoor services such as landscaping, lawn care, tree removal and snow clearing. More than 35 local businesses rely on Kolb Steel Works to keep their parking lots and sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
Kolb Steel Works now operates with three full-time employees—representing three generations of Kolbs—as well as a couple of part-time staffers. We’re standing by to put our expertise and experience to work on your next project or contracted service.

Do you do residential work as well as commercial?
Yes, we do snow clearing as well as tree removal, mowing and other landscaping work for homeowners and businesses alike.
What geographical areas do you work in?
Kolb Steel Works provides services as far north as Lakeville and as far south as Faribault. If you’re located just beyond those limits, call us anyway and we’ll discuss if we can take your project on.
Are you bonded and insured?
Yes.
Can you remove stumps?
You bet. It’s quite satisfying to grind gnarly old stumps into mulch.
How do I go about getting an estimate for our commercial contract work?
Give us a call, or come by and let’s talk in person. If it’s a nice day, you and Wade can have coffee by the creek and discuss what you need. We’ll also give you a tour of our grounds, if you like, and walk out to the 19th-century limestone railroad trestle over the creek. Low-key. No high-pressure sales pitch. Just a casual conversation to get to know you.
